What are bangs?

Jump straight to a site or search engine by prefixing or suffixing your query with !bang, or drop the ! entirely with Quickbangs.

Bangs let you skip the results page and go straight to another site or search engine. Type a bang before or after your query (for example !w privacy or privacy !w ), and Uruky redirects you instead of searching.

Two special forms are always available: !i opens Uruky image search, and a bare ! (or a trailing ! on the query) goes to the first web result ("feeling lucky").

The bang prefix defaults to ! and is configurable under Settings → Shortcuts. It must differ from the tag prefix.

Kagi bangs

Optionally enable thousands of community bangs from the Kagi bangs project. Kagi's list was originally based on DuckDuckGo's bangs, so the two catalogs share many of the same triggers and destinations.

You can also enable bangs from the DuckDuckGo bang directory. Because of the shared lineage with Kagi's list, many triggers overlap; the examples below are popular DuckDuckGo bangs that are not in the Kagi set.

DuckDuckGo also defines !i for images, but on Uruky that trigger is reserved for built-in image search; use !images instead when DuckDuckGo bangs are enabled.

Quickbangs

Quickbangs are an optional setting that lets you drop the exclamation mark. With them enabled, apple d and d apple both go to DuckDuckGo, exactly as if you had typed the bang. The first word is checked first, then the last word; a query of a single word never triggers a Quickbang.

Quickbangs use the same sources and the same precedence as regular bangs, so enabling the Kagi or DuckDuckGo catalogs alongside them means thousands of short triggers are live without the exclamation mark. Ordinary queries can then redirect when you did not mean them to (searching for vitamin a , for example). If that happens too often, turn Quickbangs off. You can also switch the Kagi and DuckDuckGo catalogs off to leave only your custom and built-in bangs, but that also removes the ! bangs from those catalogs.

Two triggers are left out on purpose: !i and feeling lucky always need the exclamation mark, so an ordinary query that starts or ends with "i" still searches normally.

Precedence and custom bangs

When several sources define the same trigger, Uruky resolves in this order: your custom bangs, then built-in, then Kagi (if enabled), then DuckDuckGo (if enabled). The first match wins.

Open Settings → Shortcuts to enable Kagi bangs, DuckDuckGo bangs, or Quickbangs, and to define up to 20 custom bangs (HTTPS URL templates with %s for the query).
